It is ironic that the past generosity of the west, people like you and me, has both fueled the birth and growth of the church in developing countries, and at the same time, fostered the economic dependence that severely hinders them. Our historic giving has not been wrong just incomplete.
Eight:Seven is addressing this issue. As you consider your financial involvement with this initiative, please understand that we are not encouraging anyone to cease their giving to worthy projects overseas. We must couple that historic generosity with truth and skills that allow the church around the world to become self-sustaining and expansive. Without that truth working in individual lives, the great bulk of our international giving sinks into a black hole of ineffectiveness.
The dollars you give to Eight:Seven will, in fact, be multiplied. When the people of the developing world begin to excel in the grace of giving (rather than the “skill” of receiving or taking), life takes on new horizons. Their resources join yours in a beautiful blend of a dynamic future. It’s a future they yearn to experience, and must have if they are to be what God intended.
